Local events

Every partner country organised a local discussion and debate event aiming for the participation of people with intellectual and complex disabilities as well as non-disabled persons (people concerned with disability questions, social workers, policy makers at the local level, parents etc.).

Between 25 and 50 participants were expected at each event. To attract the target group, appropriate methods of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) such as pictures, graphics and other non-verbal communication forms (e.g. parallel illustration) were used, thus allowing participants to follow the discussions and to contribute. The events were lead by a moderator.

Discussion campaign

Social media was used to initiate a discussion campaign about the participation opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities in Europe. The project partners tried to involve both target group representatives as well as all other people concerned with the issue and to provide a space to discuss, share and gather opinions.

FINAL CONFERENCE: "WE ARE EUROPE"

At the conference in Graz, Austria, the results from all local events in all partner countries were presented. The final event attracted more than 100 participants from all partner countries and even more participants via Twitter and Facebook. AAC was used during this event to ensure appropriate participation. The final conference was also the main political and policy making event, where political representatives joined and discussed the results and findings of the project. As a highlight, the PINE-D petition was presented and signed by the participants.
